Just two days after raising alarm bells with an injury, Justin Fields bounced back spectacularly on Saturday, sending ripples of excitement through Jets training camp.
Back on the field, Fields participated in individual drills and showcased his skills in the 7-on-7 sessions, quelling any concerns following a dislocated toe that had briefly sidelined him. During Thursday's practice, he was carted off after being stepped on, but Saturday marked a triumphant return.
Fans held their breath as Fields made a dazzling comeback, going a perfect 6-for-6 in the 7-on-7s. He connected for a stunning touchdown pass to a sprinting Tyler Johnson, and also hit targets like Garrett Wilson, Xavier Gipson, Brandon Smith, and Arian Smith.
While he sat out the full 11-on-11 drills, coach Aaron Glenn praised Fields' performance, stating, “He did a good job in the 7-on-7.” Glenn emphasized the importance of not rushing the recovery process, saying they would adhere to protocols to ensure Fields is fully ready.
The practice was viewed as a critical assessment for the team, crucial for testing players' limits both mentally and physically, according to Glenn. "It’s one of my favorite practices; it shows how the players respond," he noted, highlighting the spirited nature of the drills.
Also making waves at camp is rookie Will McDonald IV, who has been exceptional so far. He showcased his power with a bull rush that left opponent Armand Membou in the dust, marking a significant development in his skillset. Glenn pointed out that this kind of performance had been in McDonald all along but had yet to be cultivated by previous coaching staff.
With an impressive showing from Fields and promising signs from other players, Jets fans have plenty to be excited about as the season approaches!
