The New York Jets are embracing a new era with the signing of free agent quarterback Justin Fields. On Monday, the team finalized a two-year, $40 million contract that guarantees $30 million, laying the groundwork for Fields to potentially become the franchise's cornerstone player.

The deal comes just moments after the free agency negotiating window opened, although the contract won't be officially signed until Wednesday, coinciding with the start of the new NFL league year. At just 26 years old, Fields is poised to compete for the starting quarterback position in the upcoming 2025 season. With Tyrod Taylor as the only other seasoned quarterback currently on the roster, Fields would likely have the upper hand if the Jets decide to draft another quarterback next month.
