When Size Becomes a Struggle

For Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon and one of the world's richest men, having a megayacht is part of life. However, having a 500 million dollar yacht named Koru comes with its own set of challenges.

Monaco's Luxury Limitation

Last week, Bezos and his future wife, Lauren Sanchez, had plans to dock their enormous 127-meter yacht in Monaco while attending the Formula 1 Grand Prix. But the yacht’s sheer size was too much for the port, which meant they couldn’t moor there.

To put it in perspective, Koru's 70-meter-high masts and 17.2-meter width make it longer than a football field—no wonder Monaco's port authorities denied the request!

A Humble Arrival by Speedboat

Instead of stepping off his lavish yacht, the couple had to settle for a simple speedboat to reach the shore, leaving Koru bobbing a few hundred meters away. But Bezos didn’t miss out on the VIP experience at the Grand Prix!

A Pattern of Size-Related Issues

This isn't the first time Bezos faced this problem. As he prepares to marry Sanchez in Venice, Italian authorities have already warned him that Koru won’t be able to dock there either. Size truly is a double-edged sword!

Spotted Along the Riviera

While the couple faced hiccups in Monaco, they’ve been enjoying a jet-set lifestyle, previously spotted off the glamorous coastlines of Spain, Saint-Tropez, and Cannes. Interestingly, Sanchez recently received an award for her environmental efforts at the Global Gift Gala, adding a layer of irony to their carbon-heavy travels.

Though the couple might travel the world in extravagance, the challenge of docking a megayacht continues to be a small but significant hurdle for the billionaire.
