As news breaks of a significant price drop for all Destiny 1 expansions, gamers everywhere are clamoring for a remastered edition of the original title. In a surprising twist, Bungie has acknowledged this growing demand.

Launched back in September 2014, Destiny set a new precedent for looter shooter MMOs, captivating millions with its unique blend of role-playing and multiplayer gameplay. Throughout its lifecycle, the game saw a plethora of expansions such as The Dark Below, House of Wolves, The Taken King, and Rise of Iron, which helped maintain the engagement of a dedicated player base.

This week, Bungie announced a massive discount on the Destiny franchise: the all-encompassing bundle, Destiny – The Collection, is now offered at the unbeatable price of $19.99. This cut not only makes the game more accessible to newcomers but also gives veterans a chance to revisit the nostalgic universe they once loved.

The price reduction has ignited fresh conversations about a potential remaster or classic version of Destiny 1. Bungie’s Global Community Lead, Dylan Gafner, recently sparked further intrigue when he responded to a tweet from popular streamer Professor Broman. Broman asked an important question: “Destiny 1 classic servers when?” Gafner's response, though cheeky, hinted at the future of the franchise: “They’re already live! You can go play D1 right now. Seriously though, by Destiny 1 Classic, I’m assuming you mean updated with QOL and D2 features, but D1 full content package? Happy to pass along the feedback and desire. Zero promises, of course.”

While fans may still be dreaming of a remastered Destiny 1 featuring enhanced graphics, revamped quality-of-life features, and mechanics borrowed from Destiny 2, the feasibility of such an endeavor is clouded by Bungie’s recent challenges.

The studio faced significant layoffs earlier this year, with over 300 employees being let go as it underwent restructuring and transitioned several staff members to parent company Sony. Given this turbulent landscape, the prospects of launching a full-fledged remaster could be complicated.

There's been a persistent demand for a PC port of the original Destiny, leading to the emergence of a passionate fan-led project aimed at emulating the game on PC. With a thriving community supporting this initiative, the case for a remaster or at least broadening access to the game is growing strong.

Will Bungie capitalize on the evident nostalgia and eagerness from its fans to breathe new life into Destiny 1? Only time will tell, but the landscape is certainly bursting with excitement around what could come next in the beloved Destiny universe.
