Attention, iPhone users! A chilling warning has just been issued by WhatsApp regarding a highly sophisticated cyberattack targeting select individuals. Experts urge you to update your app immediately to safeguard your personal information.

This troubling advisory is linked to a vulnerability dubbed CVE-2025-55177, which, combined with an OS-level flaw in Apple systems, poses a serious threat. As reported, this glitch allows malicious actors to deceive unsuspecting users into clicking on harmless-looking links that could secretly install malware or spyware.

In simple terms, you could be infected without even knowing it—no clicks necessary. Donncha Ó Cearbhaill from Amnesty International warns that this is a ‘zero-click’ threat, raising the stakes for vulnerable users.

iOS and Android Users at Risk!

While the WhatsApp advisory indicates the problem primarily affects iOS and macOS, Ó Cearbhaill suggests early signs hint that both iPhone and Android users may also be impacted. He recently shared concerning screenshots of the alerts that Meta (WhatsApp's parent company) sent to potentially affected users.

These warnings reveal that recipients might have received a malicious message through WhatsApp, which, when combined with their device vulnerabilities, poses a significant security risk. WhatsApp has taken steps to mitigate the threat, but caution is still advised—as malware may already be lurking in your system.

Essential Precautions!

To stay safe, WhatsApp recommends a full factory reset of your device and ensuring both your app and iOS are fully updated. Users should upgrade to at least version 2.25.21.73 for iOS and 2.25.21.78 for Mac.

Ó Cearbhaill further advises activating 'iOS Lockdown Mode' or 'Android’s Advanced Protection Mode' as additional safeguards against this evolving threat.
