Hui Zhong Law Firm Expands Horizons in Southeast Asia

In a bold move to amplify its global presence, Beijing's Hui Zhong Law Firm has forged a strategic partnership with Hong Kong's boutique legal practice, GH Legal, and launched a new branch in the bustling metropolis of Singapore.

Having faced challenges during the pandemic after its Hong Kong branch's inception in 2020, Hui Zhong is now poised for a remarkable comeback in 2025 through this new alliance.

Setting the Stage for International Disputes

Ma Xiaohu, the managing partner of Hui Zhong’s Hong Kong office, shared insights with China Business Law Journal about their ambitious vision. "We aim to build steadily on our existing foundation, focusing on increasing our case intake and enhancing the quality of our services," he stated.

The Hong Kong office is uniquely positioned to handle bilateral treaty disputes and represent Chinese firms in arbitration cases both locally and in Singapore.

Ma emphasized the complexities of international disputes, noting, "These cases demand greater resources and collaborative efforts compared to domestic matters. A solid partnership between our firms allows clients to navigate our service offerings and costs more effectively, enhancing their overall experience."

A Growing Powerhouse of Legal Expertise

Following their merger, the Hong Kong branch now boasts a formidable team of six foreign-registered lawyers, including key players like Ma and GH Legal's principal, George Hui.

Singapore Office Opens Its Doors

A month later, Hui Zhong celebrated the launch of its debut overseas location in Singapore. Headed by Hazel Tang, this office focuses on key areas such as international commercial arbitration, cross-border investments, and maritime law.

According to Tang, the Singapore office aims to provide top-notch risk management and dispute resolution solutions tailored for Chinese enterprises venturing abroad and international clients eyeing investments in China. Furthermore, she indicated that for any legal matters involving Chinese law, the Singapore team would work closely with attorneys from Hui Zhong's Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong branches.
