A Record-Breaking Achievement

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has once again claimed the title of the world's busiest cargo airport, a prestigious honor bestowed by Airports Council International. This marks the 14th time since 2010 that HKIA has achieved this remarkable feat, solidifying its essential role in the global air cargo landscape.

Cathay Cargo Celebrates the Success

Cathay Cargo, the largest cargo operator at HKIA, proudly acknowledges this achievement. Tom Owen, Cathay's Director of Cargo, expressed enthusiasm over this recognition, highlighting the synergy of cooperation, innovation, and state-of-the-art facilities that make Hong Kong's air hub unmatched in the industry.

Future-Driven Investments

Owen emphasized that Cathay Cargo is not resting on its laurels. The airline is actively investing in fleet expansion, network enhancement, and digital innovations, showcasing its confidence in the long-term growth of Hong Kong's aviation and logistics sector. Cathay Cargo aims to collaborate with key partners, including the Transport and Logistics Bureau and the Airport Authority Hong Kong, to ensure HKIA's position as the premier air cargo hub globally.

Skyrocketing Cargo Volumes

In 2024, Cathay Cargo transported an impressive 1.5 million tonnes of cargo—an 11% increase from the previous year—accounting for approximately 31% of HKIA's total cargo volume. This remarkable performance positions Cathay Cargo among the top 10 cargo carriers globally based on scheduled cargo tonne kilometres.

Expanded Global Reach

With scheduled freighter services to over 40 destinations worldwide, along with ample belly space on its passenger aircraft, Cathay Cargo is enhancing its global network further. The airline is committed to nurturing Hong Kong's aviation and logistics hub, investing more than HK$100 billion in the Three-Runway System, and acquiring over 100 cutting-edge new-generation aircraft, including six Airbus A350F freighters.

Recognized Excellence in the Industry

Adding to its accolades, Cathay Cargo was recently recognized as the Cargo Operator of the Year by Air Transport World, further underscoring Hong Kong’s leadership in global air cargo.
