Hong Kong Film Festival Odyssey 2024 Kicks Off in UK with a Special Screening of Chungking Express

The much-anticipated Odyssey 2024 film festival has officially begun, showcasing the rich tapestry of Hong Kong cinema across the United Kingdom. This festival, supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (London ETO), features 25 screenings and runs from September 16 to October 16, 2024, covering six vibrant cities: London, Cambridge, Liverpool, Hereford, Farnham, and Sheffield.

The festival commenced with a glamorous reception on September 16, ahead of the screening of the restored 4K version of Wong Kar-wai's beloved classic, *Chungking Express*, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The gathering drew notable figures, including the Mayor of Lambeth, Councillor John-Paul Ennis, alongside over 150 enthusiasts from local cultural and business spheres, eager to celebrate Hong Kong's cinematic legacy.

In a stirring virtual address to festival-goers, Mr. Gilford Law, Director-General of the London ETO, emphasized the festival's significance. "This is one of the largest festivals we support, and it offers a diverse showcase of Hong Kong's vibrant film culture,” he said. He further highlighted Hong Kong's potential as a cultural and creative hub, suggesting that the city is perfectly positioned to facilitate arts and cultural exchanges between China and the international community, as outlined in the National 14th Five-Year Plan.

The Odyssey film festival is organized annually by the UK-China Film Collab, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting film culture. This year, the festival will feature over 60 films not only in cinemas but also online, along with engaging discussion panels and Q&A sessions that allow audiences to delve deeper into the realm of Hong Kong cinema.
