Cutdown day in the NFL is a day filled with emotions, as teams scramble to trim their rosters down to the mandated 53 players, just ahead of the highly anticipated regular season kickoff. With rosters ballooning between 80 and 90 players during preseason, this day inevitably leads to a flurry of heartbreaking releases.

In Buffalo, General Manager Brandon Beane is known for welcoming back former players, and this year is no exception as the team reassesses its roster. But who among the released players might get a second chance in Buffalo?

The Las Vegas Raiders recently cut ties with Justin Shorter, a wide receiver drafted by the Bills in the fifth round in 2023. Additionally, the Houston Texans waved goodbye to offensive tackle Conor McDermott and defensive end Casey Toohill.

Meanwhile, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who had a brief stint with the Bills, has also found himself on the unemployment line, as he was released by the Seattle Seahawks. One of the more controversial selections in Beane’s tenure, defensive end Boogie Basham, became yet another casualty as the Carolina Panthers let him go this Tuesday.

Wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins, who sparked some heated debates among Bills fans, had a glimmer of success with the New York Giants after his release but ultimately could not sustain it. He was cut by the Giants and signed with the San Francisco 49ers, only to face a similar fate.

Nostalgia hits hard with wide receiver Robert Woods, known for his dynamic play during his tenure in Buffalo; however, his age finally caught up to him, and he couldn’t secure a spot on the Pittsburgh Steelers' final roster.

Though Buffalo seems stable at tight end for now, former TE3 Quintin Morris was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars, adding to the unfortunate trend.

Finally, safety Mike Edwards, who had a remarkably brief and under-the-radar season in Buffalo, returned to the Kansas City Chiefs, hoping for a new chapter but ultimately failed to lock down a roster position.

As the dust settles on cutdown day, the fate of these former Bills players lingers in the air, leaving fans wondering who may soon don the blue and red once again.
