Attention HBO Max users: your account-sharing days are numbered! The streaming giant is tightening its grip, and if you’ve been sharing your password with friends or family, get ready for some major changes.

JB Perrette, the streaming and gaming chief at Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), revealed during their recent earnings call that from next month, users will face a much tougher stance on account sharing. WBD is aiming to shut down loopholes by the end of 2025, with financial implications starting to show by 2026.

In a move inspired by the likes of Netflix, WBD is joining forces with Disney and other major media players to curb this once-ignored practice. As they gear up for this crackdown, WBD is already fine-tuning their strategies based on months of user testing to distinguish between genuine users and those who are taking advantage of shared accounts.

Perrette explained that they are ready to shift to a more forceful approach in communications. "We are preparing to turn on the more aggressive language," he stated. This means that instead of gentle messages encouraging account holders to comply, users will soon face clearer, more urgent directives.

Describing the current phase as just the beginning, Perrette emphasized that by the fourth quarter, the enforcement of these policies will ramp up significantly. "Right now, the communications have been soft and possible to ignore, but soon they will become more stringent, requiring immediate action from users." He assured that the real benefits from these changes will begin to materialize by late 2023, leading into a financially beneficial 2026.

So, if you've been feeding off someone else's HBO Max binge-watching, you might want to rethink your strategy—or risk losing access to your favorite shows!
