Google Unveils Scam Detection Feature for Pixel Watch Users: A Game Changer in Caller Security!

In an exciting update for users of the Pixel Watch 2 and 3, Google has officially rolled out real-time Scam Detection, a feature previously available only on the Pixel 9 series. This powerful tool ensures that you stay one step ahead of scammers, allowing users to receive alerts directly on their wrist without needing to reach for their smartphones.

Launched in April 2025, the Scam Detection utilizes advanced technology from Google's Gemini Nano framework, which employs Multimodality to identify suspicious calling patterns often used by fraudsters. When a potentially scammy call comes in, your Pixel Watch will vibrate and emit a sound, notifying you of the "Likely scam" warning. This feature works seamlessly on-device, providing real-time alerts while you're on the move.

Should you answer a call on the watch that's flagged as a scam, the watch will notify you mid-conversation if it receives a Bluetooth signal from your paired Pixel 9 device. However, it's important to note that direct LTE calls made to the watch won't have this feature, as the call processing must occur on your phone.

The rollout of Scam Detection begins today for English language calls in the United States. To activate this essential feature, ensure that the Scam Detection setting is enabled in the Phone app on your Pixel 9—navigate to Phone app > Settings > Scam Detection.

When activated, you will hear an audible beep at the start of each call and periodically throughout if it suspects a scam. The app silently works in the background, analyzing calls for fraudulent activity. If a call is deemed likely to be a scam, it issues notifications, vibrations, and sounds to alert you. Users can easily dismiss the notification or choose to end the call directly from their watch.
