Google's Bold New Look for Search on Android
In a move set to enhance user experience, Google is rolling out an exciting redesign of the Search bar widget for Android devices, shifting the focus to optional shortcuts!
Gone is the old pill-shaped design featuring the familiar Google 'G' logo on the left. The upcoming look introduces a custom shortcut alongside the voice input microphone and Google Lens, all set within a sleek, updated pill-like container.
This redesign aligns with the recent Circle to Search revamp from earlier this year, now featuring a slightly taller structure that adheres to Material 3's trend of thicker search fields. While the broad Search bar on the left remains unchanged, the standout feature is the newly repositioned optional shortcut, now placed within a distinct circle on the right for greater visibility and easier access.
What’s New? A Closer Look!
Users can now choose from an array of handy options such as AI Mode, text and camera translation, song search, weather updates, sports scores, dictionary definitions, homework assistance, finance tracking, saved items, and news feeds.
Note that to display all features clearly, the minimum size for the widget has increased to 4x1, which may affect some home screen layouts. Adjusting the transparency will primarily change the look of the outer container, adding a personal touch.
Currently, this fresh Search bar can be spotted in Google app version 16.17 (available in the latest beta). If you haven’t seen this update on your device yet, simply long-press the widget on your home screen and select the pencil icon to check for changes!
