Google's Bold New Redesign!

In an exciting move, Google is overhauling the Account switcher found in the top-right corner of its apps, transforming it into a fullscreen experience! This major redesign replaces the previous floating window, giving users more space and aligning the look with the web platform.

What’s New in the Interface?

Now, when you click on your account, you'll see your email displayed prominently at the top, followed by a larger circular avatar and a friendly greeting that says, "Hi, [name]!" Plus, the convenient "Manage your Google Account" button is just a click away. Users will also find the familiar "Switch account" dropdown right on this new page.

Enhanced Visuals with Material 3!

Thanks to the Material 3 Expressive design, the background bursts with vibrant Dynamic Color shades, making the experience feel fresh and engaging. While the account switcher primarily serves its naming purpose in workspace apps, it also acts as a navigation tool in others, displaying key options and settings under a helpful "More from [app]" heading.

A Mixed Bag for Users

However, not all feedback has been positive. The main critique lies in the loss of spatial context, as switching accounts now feels more disruptive than before, pulling users out of their current apps. Thankfully, there’s a silver lining: users can still quickly swipe up or down on the corner switcher to bypass the fullscreen view.

As of now, 11 first-party apps on Android have adopted this new fullscreen Account switcher. Here’s the list:

- Google Home (Help, Feedback)

- Google Keep

- Google Maps (Incognito mode, Your profile, and more)

- Google News (Notifications, My Activity, etc.)

- Google Sheets

- Google Slides

- Google Tasks (Settings, Help & feedback)

- Google Translate (Saved transcripts, Languages, etc.)

- Google Wallet (Payment setup, Password manager, etc.)

- Gmail (Note: This was the first app to receive the redesign, but its rollout has been limited.)
