Smart clarified that Pope, who grew up with friends from Buford High School, encountered them unexpectedly after the game. “I didn’t see it until today, but he’s embarrassed about it. He's upset about it,” Smart stated. “That was a childhood friend he hadn’t seen in forever, but it just wasn’t smart.”

Pope, who transferred to Georgia after spending two seasons with Alabama, has played in three games this season. He reassured fans that he remains committed to the program, expressing deep appreciation for his teammates whom he battles alongside daily.

Senior receiver Colbie Young has been suspended as he faces legal challenges following a misdemeanor arrest on charges including battery and assault of an unborn child. However, developments in Young's case have taken a turn. On Wednesday, the woman involved in the incident submitted an affidavit retracting her allegations and requesting the dismissal of charges against Young. She insisted that Young did not harm her during their confrontation on October 8.

Despite the retraction, Coach Smart emphasized the importance of allowing the legal system to proceed without interference. “We want to support Kobe where we can,” Smart said. “We’ll continue to provide him with access to our facilities and support resources, but the legal process has to play itself out.”
