Baseball fans, rejoice! Francisco Lindor’s long-awaited return to the All-Star Game is finally here, marking the end of a frustrating drought. Despite facing a tough slump in recent weeks, Lindor has secured a starting position in the prestigious Midsummer Classic.

Just a year ago, Lindor was left off the All-Star roster, despite putting up solid numbers. This time around, the competition was fierce, with rising star Elly De La Cruz of the Reds deemed a worthy contender. Interestingly, De La Cruz wasn’t even a finalist, while Dodgers’ Mookie Betts snagged that honor.

This will be Lindor's first start in the All-Star Game and his overall fifth appearance since 2019, when he donned the Guardians’ jersey. The last time a Mets shortstop started in the All-Star Game was back in 2007 with Jose Reyes, who didn’t get to play in 2011 due to injury.

Despite Lindor's recognition, he’s currently struggling at the plate, going 8-for-60 since mid-June. The Mets suffered greatly during this downturn, losing 14 out of their last 17 games. Lindor’s overall stats include a .255 batting average, with 15 home runs, 43 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases. However, his recent performance has raised eyebrows.

In a strategic move to spark some energy in the lineup, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza shifted Lindor from the leadoff spot for the first time this season, placing him second in the batting order. Instead, Brandon Nimmo took over the lead-off duties.

While Lindor was the only Mets player voted in by fans, expectations remain high for Pete Alonso and Juan Soto, who are likely to be selected as reserves, alongside closer Edwin Diaz. Will this be the moment Lindor reignites his season? Stay tuned!
