Jack Del Rio Takes the Helm in Paris
Jack Del Rio is making waves in European football! The seasoned former NFL coach is set to take the reins as the head coach of the Paris Musketeers in the European League of Football, following a turbulent exit from his previous role.
Just months ago, Del Rio resigned from his position as an advisor for the University of Wisconsin after a highly publicized arrest for drunk driving.
Del Rio's Enthusiasm and Experience
Del Rio expressed enthusiasm about his new role in a statement, saying, “I’m looking forward to working with this group of men. We will teach, develop, and compete.” At 61, he brings a wealth of experience to the French team and aims to build on the success of the franchise.
A Controversial Exit
His troubled recent history caught national attention in November when he was arrested in Madison, Wisconsin, after allegedly crashing his vehicle into a street sign and a residential fence.
The incident escalated with Del Rio reportedly pleading with police officers from the back of the squad car to let him use the restroom, exclaiming, “Look at me. What the f–k?”
Del Rio's Career Background
Despite this setback, Del Rio is determined to turn a new leaf. His career has spanned over 35 years, notably serving as head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Oakland Raiders.
Most recently, he acted as the defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders from 2020 until earlier this year.
Transitioning Leadership
As the second head coach in the Musketeers' history, Del Rio takes over from Marc Mattioli, who led the team to a respectable 16-8 record during their inaugural seasons before stepping down to pursue personal and professional aspirations in the United States.
A Warm Welcome from the Musketeers
“I am incredibly excited to welcome Coach Del Rio to Paris,” said Paris Musketeers CEO John McKeon.
He emphasized Del Rio's commitment to excellence and his passion for teaching, hoping to enhance the team’s culture and momentum built by Mattioli.
Looking Ahead to the Season
The Paris Musketeers are gearing up to kick off the fifth season of the EFL on May 17 against the defending champions, Rhein Fire.
Del Rio’s arrival in Paris promises to add a thrilling element to the season, and fans will undoubtedly be watching closely to see if he can lead his new team to victory.
