Exciting Times for the Alien Franchise!

The Alien: Romulus saga is set to continue, but fans will have to welcome a new director as Fede Álvarez has announced he will not be at the helm for the sequel.

In a conversation with TooFab during Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights event, Álvarez confirmed the script for the follow-up is complete. However, he’s decided to step aside from directing, instead taking on a producer role alongside legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott.

Passing the Baton to New Talent

"I’m going to pass the torch on this one as director," Álvarez stated. He emphasized the importance of finding a filmmaker who is eager to dive deep into the horror elements of the franchise, saying, "We want someone who really wants to go for the jugular!"

Álvarez acknowledged the trend of directors stepping in and out of franchises, especially within the Alien universe, which has a rich history. He added, "We love the story we started with Romulus, and we want to see it continue!"

What’s Next for Rain and Andy?

Fans are particularly eager to discover the fate of survivors Rain and Andy, portrayed by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonson. As Steve Asbel, President of Production at 20th Century Studios, mentioned, the audience is in for thrilling horror scenes along with alien encounters.

Álvarez's Future Plans

While he's excited about the direction the Alien franchise is heading, Álvarez has plans of his own. He revealed he’s looking forward to working on a personal project that he and his co-writer have been nurturing on the back burner. Unfortunately, details about this exciting new venture remain under wraps.

Halloween Plans: A Family Affair

As Halloween approaches, Álvarez plans to go all out once again, especially for his kids. Reflecting on his past elaborate costumes, he mentioned his son dressed as a xenomorph using the same costume from Romulus, showcasing just how dedicated he is to making Halloween special.

Indeed, Álvarez’s creativity extends beyond the screen and into family festivities, proving he truly enjoys immersing himself in both horror and parenthood!
