After a swift 10-minute flight, the Falcon 9 launch vehicle released the Resilience spacecraft into low-Earth orbit. Now comfortably cruising, the Fram2 team has begun to share stunning visuals of the polar landscapes that are unfolding beneath them.
Leading the Fram2 mission is Chun Wang from Malta, the mission's financier, supported by an international crew that includes Jannicke Mikkelsen from Norway as vehicle commander, Rabea Rogge from Germany as mission pilot, and Eric Phillips from Australia serving as mission specialist and medical officer. "Today, we proudly join the ranks as the 681st humans to soar beyond the Kármán line, and the 626th to complete an orbit around our magnificent Earth," Wang declared in a post on social media shortly after they achieved orbit.
Shortly after the launch, SpaceX released a captivating video shot from the open nosecone of Resilience, showcasing the spacecraft's domed cupola window as it captured the view of one of Earth's polar regions draped in a pristine white blanket of snow and ice. The mission is artfully named after the early 20th-century Norwegian seafaring vessel “Fram,” renowned for its explorative journeys across the Arctic and Antarctic.
