HONG KONG, September 23, 2024

Get ready for an extraordinary opportunity as the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), in collaboration with Standard Chartered Bank and the Hong Kong, China Association of Athletics Affiliates (HKAAA), hosts the “Hong Kong International Airport - Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon: Three-Runway System 10km International Race.” This spectacular event will take place on November 17, 2024, allowing runners to race on the iconic runways of the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) in celebration of two significant milestones: the completion of HKIA’s Three-Runway System and the 75th anniversary of the People's Republic of China.

Athletes from around the globe will gather for a chance to be among approximately 12,000 participants in various categories that include not just the 10km race, but also 5km, 3km, and Wheelchair Races, along with a specially designed Women’s Elite 10km Challenge. Runners will embark from the Centre Runway, a restricted area of the airport, and after a thorough check-in process at AsiaWorld-Expo, they'll be shuttled to the race start line.

"The completion of the Three-Runway System is a defining moment for HKIA," said AAHK Acting CEO Vivian Cheung. "This race signifies our commitment to enhancing Hong Kong's standing as a major international aviation hub, and we're thrilled to share this unique experience with runners who will get to race on the runway before its full operation."

The race aims to promote inclusivity and diversity within the running community, accommodating participants of all abilities. HKAAA Chairman Kwan Kee shares, "This event is not just about speed; it’s a chance for everyone to experience the extraordinary feat of running on a world-class runway while showcasing their skills on a level surface."

This remarkable marathon is a nod to tradition, harking back to the Standard Chartered ’98 New Airport Marathon, which celebrated the opening of the airport itself, attracting over 6,000 participants.
