Hidetaka Miyazaki here! I’m privileged to work at FromSoftware, where I currently lead the development of The Duskbloods. Our studio has a legacy of creating challenging and memorable gaming experiences, and I’m excited to share what we have in store for fans!

How Did This Project Begin?

The inception of The Duskbloods traces back to an enlightening discussion we had with Nintendo. We presented an early idea, which was rough around the edges but sparked significant interest from Nintendo. They encouraged us to formalize our concept, which allowed us to breathe life into this unique project. Originally planned for the Nintendo Switch, we quickly pivoted to consider the capabilities of the upcoming Switch 2, allowing us to enhance the game with online features that align perfectly with our creative vision.

What Sets The Duskbloods Apart?

Unlike our previous titles, The Duskbloods is characterized as a PvPvE game, where players engage in combat against each other and against the environment. This structure enables expansive gameplay opportunities, providing intense challenges that combine our signature enemy design with competitive player-versus-player interactions.

While this title emphasizes online multiplayer experiences, I want to clarify that we remain committed to creating single-player experiences that characterize our other projects. The recently announced Nintendo Switch 2 version of Elden Ring is a testament to our dedication to our traditional gaming roots.

Enter the Bloodsworn: Heroes of Dusk

In The Duskbloods, you’ll take on the role of the “Bloodsworn,” characters blessed with extraordinary powers garnered from a mystical source of blood. While they share elements with traditional vampire lore, our Bloodsworn are crafted to embody the alluring and tragic aspects associated with this mythos, rather than embodying monstrous characteristics.

The narrative thrust of the game revolves around a concept known as "First Blood," a coveted resource that players seek during a cataclysmic event referred to as the "Twilight of Humanity." In this world, the Bloodsworn are summoned across diverse historical eras, from Gothic landscapes to gritty industrial settings, all vying to claim First Blood.

The title The Duskbloods refers directly to the Bloodsworn themselves—our protagonists in their quest for survival and power. As humanity teeters on the brink of extinction, the Bloodsworn emerge in search of First Blood during the Twilight of Humanity. Each character's story and abilities are intertwined with this desperate struggle, making every encounter a compelling chapter in the game’s overarching narrative.
