Exciting New Amtrak Route Launches Direct Trains from Cleveland to Florida!

2024-09-24

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Get ready for hassle-free train travel!

Starting November 10, passengers in Northeast Ohio can board an Amtrak train in Cleveland and enjoy a seamless journey without any transfers to sunny destinations like Orlando, Tampa, and Miami.

Amtrak has unveiled plans to merge two existing routes: the Capitol Limited, which operates from Chicago to Washington, D.C. via Cleveland, and the Silver Star, which runs from Washington to Miami. The newly combined service, aptly named the "Floridian," will cover the entire distance from Chicago to Miami in approximately 46 hours and 29 minutes.

For those specifically traveling from Cleveland to Orlando, the trip will take about 32 hours and 13 minutes, with stops at key cities including Richmond, Virginia; Raleigh, North Carolina; Columbia, South Carolina; and Jacksonville, Florida.

Tickets for this daily service are already available, with departures scheduled from Cleveland at 1:54 a.m. Pricing begins around $180 for coach seating to Orlando, a major perk for travelers who previously had to change trains in Washington, D.C.

This route doesn't just benefit Cleveland; it also includes stops in Elyria, Sandusky, and Toledo. Travelers can look forward to enjoying the ride in Amtrak's modern single-level Viewliner cars, which offer various accommodations including coach and first-class seating, roomettes, and bedrooms equipped with private restrooms and showers.

One of the highlights of the journey will be the traditional dining car, featuring chef-prepared meals—complimentary for first-class passengers and available for an extra cost for other travelers.

It's important to note that this combination of routes is a temporary measure aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in New York City, particularly with the commencement of the East River Tunnel rehabilitation project that will restore the tunnels underneath the East River. Meanwhile, the Silver Meteor service will continue its daily operations between New York and Miami.

This isn’t the first time Cleveland has been included in the route to Miami. Amtrak previously operated the Floridian service in the 1970s, but that version did not stop in Cleveland, making this new service a significant development for local travelers.

Jim Mathews, the president and CEO of the Rail Passengers Association, expressed excitement over the newfound travel option: "Our members have had a long-standing dream of restoring a one-seat ride from the Midwest to Florida, and we're thrilled that a new generation of American passengers will be able to experience this service for themselves."

This new Amtrak route offers a perfect solution for those looking to escape to warmer climates without the stress of multiple train changes. Don’t miss the chance to ride the rails to Florida!
