In the latest move towards AI integration, Google is experimenting with a fresh way to access its generative AI features directly from the Search bar on Android. This revamped experience promises to make launching AI Mode easier and more intuitive!
Previously, users had to rely on a shortcut beneath the Search bar in the Google app. This shortcut coexisted with handy buttons for Screenshots, Translation, and Homework filters, which all launched Google Lens and Song Search.
Now, Google is testing a standout AI Mode circle prominently located in the Search field. By replacing the voice and Lens icons, this new design allows users to dive straight into typing by simply tapping on the circle. Recently, the 'Ask AI Mode' feature was also enhanced with Google Lens integration, enabling users to upload images from their gallery or snap a new photo for assistance.
The traditional colorful carousel with shortcuts for voice searches and visual lookups has been replaced, streamlining access to AI functionalities.
Currently, this innovative design is being trialed on a single device, but it’s part of a broader rollout for free users in the US who can now join the AI Mode experience via the Search Labs. Stay tuned as Google continues to reshape how we interact with search!
