Hong Kong Prepares for an Epic Sporting Showdown
Get ready, Hong Kong! This bustling metropolis is set to roll out the red carpet for an astounding 2,300 athletes and over 100,000 sports fans as it prepares to host two monumental national sporting events later this year.
On Monday, officials unveiled their comprehensive plans to amplify the excitement surrounding the games, with an emphasis on enhancing the overall experience through improved reception, vibrant publicity, and upgraded infrastructure.
Remarkable Measures for a Grand Welcome
Key initiatives include creating special border-clearance channels exclusively for athletes and teams, adding numerous eye-catching photo spots, and launching a user-friendly smart platform that simplifies ticket purchasing for everyone involved.
A Collaborative Effort Among Regions
In a collaboration with the Macao Special Administrative Region and Guangdong province, Hong Kong will host the prestigious 15th National Games in November, followed by the combined 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and 9th National Special Olympic Games in December.
Expect thrilling competitions across a plethora of disciplines, including men's U22 basketball, fencing, golf, rugby sevens, and triathlon—along with community participation in a mass bowling event!
Efficient Transportation and Accessibility Measures
Yeung Tak-keung, the head of the National Games Coordination Office, shared during a recent Legislative Council meeting that over 2,300 athletes and 1,800 officials will arrive in Hong Kong for this sports extravaganza.
To facilitate smooth entry, dedicated immigration and customs channels will be set up at four key border control points—Hong Kong International Airport, West Kowloon railway station, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, and Shenzhen Bay. Transportation services will ensure athletes, officials, and guests can travel effortlessly between hotels and competition venues, complete with 25 wheelchair-accessible buses for disabled athletes.
Enhancing the Sports Experience
Rosanna Law Shuk-pui, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, emphasized that their collaboration with the Hong Kong Police Force and Transport Department will detail traffic measures to ensure seamless travel to and from event sites.
Moreover, a second phase of the National Game’s promotional activities will run until July, leading into an even grander third phase starting in August. Expect vibrant photo spots featuring the games’ mascots, Xiyangyang and Lerongrong, and splendid decorations around the competitive venues to infuse the atmosphere with sports spirit.
Countdown to Excitement!
The countdown to the two national sports meets includes thrilling warm-up activities such as a 100-day countdown celebration, a torch relay, and a festive Sport For All Day.
With the expectations of drawing huge crowds from Hong Kong, the mainland, and beyond, ticket sales will be highly accessible! The Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao ticketing platform will offer both online and offline sales, ensuring everyone gets a chance to be part of this historic event.
The Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau encourages local tourism sectors to create enticing travel packages tailored to coincide with the ticket offerings.
Get Ready to Cheer!
With a whirlwind of activities and unprecedented levels of excitement, the National Games promise to be an unforgettable celebration of athleticism and community spirit in Hong Kong!
