The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) is soaring to new heights with its exclusive travel partner, Cathay Pacific, through the launch of ‘WestK in the Sky,’ an innovative in-flight video series that showcases Hong Kong's dynamic arts and cultural landscape to travelers worldwide.
This exciting initiative is a product of a fruitful three-year partnership established in 2023 between WestK and Cathay, aimed at positioning Hong Kong as a premier global destination for arts and culture. Available on Cathay Pacific's renowned in-flight entertainment system, the videos highlight WestK’s cultural landmarks and diverse artistic programs that enrich Hong Kong's profile on the world stage.
The series kicked off on April 1 with six episodes that delve into various artistic endeavors. The premier episode, titled “A Unique Cultural Mission,” features Hong Kong artist Do Do Cheng engaging with key figures in the cultural sector, including Betty Fung, CEO of WKCDA, and Ronald Lam, CEO of the Cathay Group. Together, they share their collective vision of advancing the arts and cultural sectors in Hong Kong.
Subsequent episodes continue to explore the unique offerings of WestK. “Inside Hong Kong Palace Museum” provides a glimpse into the museum's stunning architecture, innovative exhibitions, and digital initiatives presented by its director, Louis Ng. Meanwhile, local celebrity and fashionista Karen Mok takes viewers on a fashionable journey in “A Dazzling Fashion Journey,” exploring three centuries of French fashion as part of her role in the upcoming 2024 exhibition, "The Adorned Body: French Fashion and Jewellery 1770–1910 from the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris."
“Inside M+,” another captivating feature, leads audiences through the acclaimed M+ museum with insights from its director and chief curator, Suhanya Raffel and Doryun Chong, respectively. Further enticing viewers, “When Jazz Meets Cantopop” showcases the Patrick Lui Jazz Orchestra collaborating with Cantopop legends RubberBand at the Freespace Jazz Fest 2024, providing a fresh take on classic Hong Kong cinema music.
Ronald Lam expressed his excitement about the launch, stating, "WestK in the Sky offers us a remarkable opportunity to share Hong Kong's arts and culture through compelling storytelling. Our collaboration with WKCDA is integral to advocating for the sustainable development of the arts in Hong Kong."
