In a significant announcement, Disney Advertising revealed that the media giant has averaged a staggering 157 million monthly active users (MAUs) across its streaming platforms globally, including 112 million within the U.S., over the past six months. This data highlights Disney's strength in the highly competitive streaming landscape.

This statistic was unveiled just before Disney's fifth annual Tech and Data Showcase at CES in Las Vegas, showcasing the company’s commitment to innovation and transparency in the digital advertising sector.

To put these numbers in perspective, Netflix disclosed in November that it reached 70 million monthly active users, while Fox Corp.’s Tubi recently announced 97 million users. Disney’s impressive figures underscore its dominance in attracting viewers to its platforms.

To add credibility to their reported numbers, Disney provided an in-depth look at the methodology behind their MAU count, which not all streaming services have done. The ad-supported monthly user numbers are calculated based on active accounts across Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+. Specifically, an account is categorized as active if it has engaged with ad-supported content for more than 10 seconds. Each account's user base is then estimated, factoring in an average of 2.6 users per account derived from a comprehensive survey of over 13,000 adults aged 18 to 64 in advertising-tier regions.

Rita Ferro, President of Global Advertising, emphasized Disney's unique position in the streaming market, stating, “Disney sits at the intersection of world class sports and entertainment content, with the most high-value audiences in ad-supported global streaming at scale." This statement reflects Disney’s strategic approach to capturing both sports enthusiasts and entertainment lovers, enhancing its appeal to advertisers.

However, the press release also included a notable disclaimer: “We do not assume any obligation to publicly provide revisions or updates to the information provided herein.” This phrase has raised eyebrows regarding the company's commitment to transparency moving forward.

As Disney continues to expand its streaming services, the question remains: how will this impact their competition and future content offerings? With audiences increasingly turning to digital platforms, Disney's ability to maintain and grow its viewership will be a topic to watch in the months ahead.
