In a startling turn of events, a skunk killed by a dog in Cherry Hill has tested positive for rabies, officials in Camden County revealed last week.

The Incident

On May 16, a local resident reported that their dog had fatally confronted the skunk in their backyard. Concern quickly grew as health authorities took action, sending the skunk to a state laboratory for analysis.

A Positive Test

On Wednesday, the Camden County Department of Health confirmed the worst: the skunk was rabid. In response, the dog received a rabies booster shot and has been placed in quarantine for four months to ensure public safety.

Rising Rabies Concerns

This incident marks the third confirmed case of rabies in Camden County within just two months. Earlier in April, a raccoon suspected of rabies was killed by police in Oaklyn, with tests confirming the virus shortly after. Another raccoon, which attacked a dog in Collingswood, also tested positive.
