Dak Prescott Faces IR Stint: Cowboys' Season Hangs in the Balance!
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is facing the likely prospect of heading to injured reserve due to a hamstring injury. Team owner Jerry Jones confirmed the heartbreaking news, indicating that Presley could miss a minimum of four games. Should everything align perfectly, he might make a comeback in Week 14 against the Cincinnati Bengals on a highly anticipated Monday night.
The injury occurred during the Cowboys' nail-biting 27-21 defeat to the Atlanta Falcons, as the third quarter was winding down. Prescott downplayed the incident initially, stating that he "didn't think much" of the discomfort in his hamstring, despite struggling to walk afterward. He was unable to return for the fourth quarter, forcing backup quarterback Cooper Rush to take over.
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy remained tight-lipped on Monday, only confirming that Prescott would miss the crucial Week 10 showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles. Reports suggest that this injury could sideline the quarterback for multiple weeks, leaving many fans speculating about the team's future.
In the first eight games of the season, Prescott has thrown for 1,978 yards, securing 11 touchdown passes while also allowing eight interceptions. His completion percentage has dipped to 64.7%, marking his lowest since his second season in the NFL back in 2017.
This period of uncertainty will see Cooper Rush stepping in as the starting quarterback for the second time in three seasons. Rush previously took the reins in 2022 after Prescott injured his thumb, leading the Cowboys to a commendable 4-1 record during his tenure.
Currently, the Cowboys find themselves struggling with a 3-5 record, placing them third in the NFC East. The upcoming schedule poses challenges, with three of their next four games set against division rivals — the Eagles, Washington Commanders, and New York Giants — before a much-needed bye week. To complicate matters further, Prescott's absence could be compounded by the potential loss of top wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who is also nursing a shoulder injury.
However, amidst these setbacks, the determined Jones remains optimistic about the Cowboys' prospects. Demonstrating a clear intent to improve the roster, the team recently acquired wide receiver Jonathan Mingo from the Carolina Panthers, signaling that the Cowboys are still in a "buying" mode and not giving up on the season just yet.
"We’re not selling. We will make that case," Jones affirmed. "We’re buying and not selling." Will this aggressive approach be enough to weather the storms caused by injury? Only time will tell as the Cowboys navigate this challenging part of their season.
