Exciting News for College Football Fans!
Big news has emerged from Irving, Texas! The National Football Foundation (NFF) has officially released the ballot for the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame, featuring a remarkable lineup of 79 players and 9 coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision, along with 100 players and 35 coaches from divisional ranks.
A Clemson Star in the Spotlight
Among the elite nominees is former Clemson defensive back Donnell Woolford, a standout who left an indelible mark on college football. Woolford, a two-time First Team All-American and a consensus selection in 1988, is a two-time First Team All-ACC player. He played a key role in leading the Tigers to three conference championships and holds impressive records for career pass breakups (44) and punt return touchdowns (2) at Clemson.
Additionally, Woolford was celebrated as an ACC Legend in 2014, highlighting his lasting legacy in the conference.
Selection Process and Honors Ahead
The ballot has been sent out to over 12,000 NFF members and Hall of Famers, and their votes will be crucial as they are submitted to the NFF's Honors Court. This distinguished group is chaired by Archie Griffin, a NFF Hall of Famer from Ohio State, and comprises athletic administrators, former players, and media professionals.
Get ready for the announcement of the 2026 Hall of Fame class in early 2026! The induction ceremony will occur during the NFF's Annual Awards Dinner on December 8, 2026, at the luxurious Bellagio Hotel & Casino.
A Prestigious Honor Among Many
With over 5.78 million players having donned a college football jersey since the first game in 1869, only 1,111 have earned induction into the Hall of Fame—making it a truly exclusive club of legends. Among them, just 237 coaches are recognized for their exceptional contributions.
Scholarship and Excellence Honored Too!
The 2026 ballot also includes eight NFF National Scholar-Athletes, showcasing the balance of academic achievement and athletic excellence. Nominees include notable names like Jeff Bregel (USC), Manti Te'o (Notre Dame), and Alabama’s DeMeco Ryans.
Since its inception, the NFF has honored 938 scholar-athletes, but only 49 have the dual distinction of being both a Hall of Famer and a National Scholar-Athlete—a testament to their extraordinary dedication.
Rooting for Woolford!
As the excitement builds around these nominations, fans and alumni alike are rallying behind Donnell Woolford, hoping to see him recognized among the football greats. Will Woolford's name be called when the Hall of Fame Class of 2026 is unveiled? Stay tuned!
