In an unbelievable turn of events, a Delta Air Lines flight on Saturday became the scene of unexpected chaos just before takeoff from Minneapolis to Madison, Wisconsin, when two rogue pigeons decided to stir up trouble in the cabin.
Passengers were in for a wild surprise when they discovered their aircraft wasn’t the only thing aiming to take flight. When word spread that a pigeon was flapping around the cabin, pandemonium ensued as crew and travelers scrambled to catch the feathered invader.
Tom Caw, an Instagram user present at the scene, shared the jaw-dropping moment on social media. He revealed that a passenger alerted a flight attendant about the unexpected stowaway. To everyone’s shock, the pilot confirmed the situation, admitting, "I have no experience with this!" This revelation drew gasps and laughter from passengers.
After some commotion, ground staff swooped in and successfully captured the first pigeon, eliciting cheers from the relieved passengers. But just when everyone thought the drama was over, a second pigeon made a surprising appearance as the plane began taxiing!
Caw’s video captured the frantic atmosphere as another passenger tried to shield the bird with a jacket. Laughter turned to shock as the pigeon plummeted to the floor, prompting an audible scream from the crowd.
CNN later shared audio of an amused air traffic controller, who couldn’t believe his ears: "There’s a pigeon on the airplane, and it won’t go away. That’s a first for me – wow!"
The pilot humorously informed passengers that this was actually the second time he dealt with such avian antics, mentioning the prior incident just thirty minutes before.
Eventually, airport staff managed to escort the second bird off the plane after it returned to the gate. Delta Airlines issued an official apology for the disruption, praising both passengers and crew for their calm response in handling the peculiar situation.
Caw humorously noted that the flight to Madison lasts only about an hour, pointing out that the pigeons didn’t realize they had picked the wrong flight for food, as Delta doesn’t offer beverage or snack service on such short hops.
