This year’s celebration holds extra significance as it commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, the very foundation of European integration.

Our partnership is robust. The EU stands as one of Hong Kong's major trading allies, with a colossal trading relationship valued at 67 billion EUR, bolstered by a substantial investment of 82 billion EUR in our vibrant city. Remarkably, the EU represents the largest non-Chinese foreign business community in Hong Kong, far surpassing companies from Japan, the US, and the UK.

Having spent just eight months here, I find Hong Kong truly lives up to its moniker, 'The Pearl of the Orient.' Its beauty, openness, and entrepreneurial spirit resonate deeply. The warmth and hospitality I have experienced from the local people have been truly heartwarming.

Engaging Initiatives and Cultural Exchanges

Our efforts to strengthen ties include a variety of exciting initiatives, such as the Speak Dating event to celebrate European languages and the European Union Film Festival. The enthusiasm from Hong Kongers to engage with European cultures has been phenomenal!

Looking to the future, sustainability remains essential. Both the EU and Hong Kong share a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. I am grateful for the opportunity to collaborate on this crucial effort, which continues to shape our joint vision for a greener tomorrow.
