Exciting Announcement for Travelers
Cathay Pacific (CX) has revealed that it will resume direct flights connecting Hong Kong (HKG) to Rome (FCO) starting June 5, 2025. This seasonal service will operate three times a week, enhancing the airline's commitment to fostering connections between Asia and Italy.
Significant Addition to Existing Network
The reintroduction of the Hong Kong-Rome service marks a significant addition to Cathay Pacific’s existing network, which already includes five weekly flights to Milan. This frequency is set to expand to daily flights later this summer, showcasing the airline’s dedication to increasing its presence in the Italian market.
Timely Service Coinciding with 2025 Year of Jubilee
Rome's service is particularly timely as it coincides with the 2025 Year of Jubilee, a major religious celebration that attracts millions to the city. Throughout the year, visitors can look forward to a series of vibrant events and festivities in both Vatican City and Rome. This makes the Cathay Pacific connection to the Italian capital especially convenient for international travelers seeking to partake in these cultural experiences.
Statement from Cathay Pacific’s Executive
Lavinia Lau, Cathay Pacific’s Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, highlighted the airline’s historic connections to Italy, which date back to the launch of its first direct flights to Rome in 1986. “We know our customers have been eagerly anticipating the return of this route, and we are delighted to be returning to Italy’s marvelous capital this summer,” Lau expressed.
Passenger Experience on the New Service
Passengers on the new service can look forward to flying aboard the Airbus A350-900, which offers various seating options tailored to meet diverse travel needs:
- **Business Class**: Experience ultimate comfort with fully flat beds.
- **Premium Economy**: Enjoy spacious seating designed for relaxation.
- **Economy Class**: Travel affordably without compromising comfort.
Ambitious Expansion Plans for 2025
Cathay Pacific is not just focused on the Rome route. The airline has an ambitious expansion plan for 2025, aiming to establish six additional connections, including Hyderabad in March, Dallas in April, Munich in June, and Brussels in August, alongside the resumed Rome flights.
Low-Cost Airline Expansion
In addition, the airline’s low-cost subsidiary, HK Express, plans to launch flights to Sendai in January, further diversifying the travel options available from Hong Kong.
Strategic Focus on Global Reach
As the Cathay Group strives to operate passenger services to 100 destinations worldwide by the end of the year, the strategic focus remains on leveraging Hong Kong as a pivotal gateway to the Asia-Pacific region. This expansion includes 19 key destinations within mainland China serviced by both Cathay Pacific and HK Express.
