In a stunning revelation, Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett has announced her intention to retire from acting, expressing her desire to explore new avenues in life.
During a revealing interview with Radio Times, Blanchett stated, "It’s because I’m giving up," leaving fans buzzing with confusion and disbelief.
With a mix of humor and seriousness, she admitted, "My family rolls their eyes every time I say it, but I mean it. I am serious about giving up acting… [There are] a lot of things I want to do with my life." This unexpected declaration has sent shockwaves through Hollywood.
Blanchett's announcement comes as she prepares to star in her first major radio play, an adaptation of Wallace Shawn’s 'The Fever,' focusing on a woman's political and spiritual awakening. Just recently, she wrapped up a successful five-week performance as Arkadina in Chekhov's classic 'The Seagull' at London’s prestigious Barbican Theatre.
Her cinematic journey is far from over, however. Blanchett’s latest film, 'Black Bag,' directed by Steven Soderbergh and featuring Michael Fassbender, hit theaters in March. She also recently completed filming 'Father, Mother, Sister, Brother,' directed by Jim Jarmusch, which is set for a 2025 release.
Despite her impressive resume, including two Oscars and multiple film festival awards, Blanchett confesses to feeling uncomfortable in the limelight. "I feel like I’m on the periphery of things, always surprised when I belong anywhere," she shared. "I’ve spent a lifetime getting comfortable with the feeling of being uncomfortable."
Her future looks busy as she balances acting and producing, currently working on 'Alpha Gang,' a sci-fi comedy, and is also attached to 'The Champions,' directed by Ben Stiller.
Fans and colleagues alike will be watching closely to see if Blanchett truly steps away from the spotlight or if this is just another chapter in her incredible career.
