The Story Behind the Corner House

"These distinctive corner houses, standing proudly at the intersection of two bustling streets, weave together a tapestry of residential and commercial life," Howard explains. This particular corner house, nestled at the junction of Tung Choi Street and Shantung Street, represents a cherished example of 'tong lau'—a term meaning 'Chinese building'—first constructed in the 19th century.

However, as urban development sweeps through Hong Kong, these historical gems are being overshadowed by towering modern skyscrapers. Howard laments, "These transformations are erasing crucial links to the city's authentic character and history."
