In an exciting development for fans of women's basketball, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever will gracing the screens of fans across the country with 41 of their 44 games set to be nationally televised or streamed in the 2025 WNBA season. This is the highest number for any franchise in the league, demonstrating the Fever's rising popularity and the star power of Caitlin Clark.
Out of the Fever's games, 10 will be broadcasted on major networks ABC and ESPN, while eight will air on ION. The Fever's viewership has been on an upward trend, as they showcased 36 out of 40 games on national broadcasts during the previous season. With the WNBA expanding its schedule to 44 games this year, it’s clear that Indiana’s increased broadcast visibility is a direct response to their growing viewer interest. Notably, last season saw six different television partners for the WNBA setting viewership records, all linked to Fever telecasts.
The WNBA itself had a remarkable season last year, with ESPN reporting a staggering 170% increase in viewership compared to 2023, making it the network's most-watched regular season ever. Record-breaking numbers were also achieved during the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game, which drew in 3.4 million viewers—the largest audience the exhibition has ever seen. The 2024 WNBA Draft also made waves, captivating 2.4 million viewers and marking its position as the most-viewed draft yet.
In a statement reflecting on the remarkable season, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said, "The WNBA is coming off a 2024 season in which incredible basketball and countless memorable performances paved the way for the WNBA to deliver a record-breaking season. Now, with so much excitement around the player movement that took place this winter through free agency and trades, the WNBA's broadcast and streaming partners in 2025 will spotlight the league's superstars, rising stars, and must-see matchups like never before."
As for the competition, the New York Liberty, last year's championship winners, will have 32 of their games nationally broadcasted. Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Aces, spearheaded by last season’s MVP A’ja Wilson, will appear in 33 national broadcasts. The Aces kick off their season on May 17 against the Liberty, while Clark and the Fever face off against the Chicago Sky, both games airing on ABC.
Moreover, to accommodate fan demand, six of the Fever's games have been relocated to larger venues, addressing the necessity for increased seating capacity. Similarly, both the Aces and Washington Mystics have also moved some of their games to larger arenas, with the Mystics relocating their clashes against the Aces and Sky to EagleBank Arena in Virginia.
The 2025 WNBA regular season will kick off with a thrilling tripleheader on ION on May 16, setting the stage for a fantastic season of women’s basketball.
In anticipation of a major new broadcast deal worth $2.2 billion over 11 years that will take effect in 2026, the league's network partners are ramping up their coverage. ABC is set to break records with a total of 13 broadcasts, while ION will air the most regular-season games of any network, featuring 50 games—up from 43 last year—along with Friday night doubleheaders. CBS and CBS Sports Network will contribute 20 games to the lineup, including the league's first prime-time regular-season game on broadcast television.
NBA TV will be covering 40 games, and Amazon Prime Video is set to air the Commissioner’s Cup championship along with 20 other contests. Furthermore, WNBA League Pass will have more than 200 out-of-market games available for streaming.
As the league and its franchises continue to grow in prominence, the 2025 season promises to be pivotal in setting new benchmarks for viewership and fan engagement in women’s sports. Get ready, fans—this season is going to be a game-changer!
