Brock Purdy's Injury Update
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy will sit out the upcoming season finale against the Arizona Cardinals. However, in a recent update, General Manager John Lynch has assured fans that Purdy's injury is not serious and he hasn't sustained any long-term damage from the Week 17 loss to the Detroit Lions.
Lynch's Assurance to Fans
During a candid interview with KNBR, Lynch emphasized that there are no pressing health concerns regarding Purdy as the 2023 season wraps up. He explained that Purdy experienced symptoms akin to hitting one's funny bone, which occurs when elbow nerves are temporarily irritated, not uncommon in the league.
"He just got hit in the elbow, which caused some numbness due to the irritation of the nerves," Lynch clarified. "Everything is alright; Brock’s gonna be fine. We just need to allow it some time to settle down."
Josh Dobbs Steps In
In light of Purdy’s condition, veteran Josh Dobbs will step in as the starting quarterback for the team's finale. The medical staff determined that rest is the best course of action for Purdy after an MRI revealed some inflammation around the elbow area.
"The medical team said it wasn't wise to push him back into play given the current situation. He definitely showed signs of nerve irritation," Lynch explained. "Once the scans were done and we saw the inflammation, the decision was clear."
Purdy's Season Performance
Despite the setback, Purdy finishes the season with impressive statistics: he completed 66% of his pass attempts, amassing 3,864 yards alongside 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Additionally, he showcased his running ability by rushing for 323 yards and five touchdowns.
Looking Ahead
As fans look to the future, Lynch’s optimistic words serve as a beacon of hope for 49ers supporters, who have seen Purdy grow into a pivotal player throughout the season. With promising performances under his belt, the expectation is that with proper treatment and a brief rest, Purdy will return to his full strength in the upcoming season, ready to lead the 49ers to new heights.
