Braves Ink $13 Million Deal with Aaron Bummer and Revise Reynaldo Lopez's Contract!

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves have made headlines by securing left-handed pitcher Aaron Bummer with a lucrative two-year contract worth $13 million. Additionally, the team has finalized a revised three-year deal with All-Star right-hander Reynaldo Lopez that could see him earn a total of $30 million, ensuring an extra $4 million in guaranteed money.

Bummer, 31, who previously played with the Chicago White Sox, had a $7.25 million option that included a $1.25 million buyout in his initial $16 million, five-year deal. Under the terms of the new contract, he will earn $3.5 million next season, ramping up to $9.5 million in 2026.

Reynaldo Lopez, aged 30, returns to the spotlight after an impressive performance last season, where he posted an enviable 1.99 ERA across 25 starts. His original agreement, made last November for $30 million over three years, is now bolstered with enhanced salaries of $8 million in 2025 and $14 million in 2026, alongside an $8 million club option for 2027.

As part of their commitment to the community, both Bummer and Lopez have pledged to donate 1% of their salaries to the Atlanta Braves Foundation, reinforcing the team’s engagement in philanthropic efforts.

In addition to these contracts, the Braves have selected the contract of right-hander Domingo Gonzalez from Triple-A Gwinnett, further strengthening their roster.

Bummer recently joined the Braves following a trade that sent pitchers Mike Soroka, Jared Shuster, and Riley Gowens, along with infielders Nicky Lopez and Braden Shewmake, to the White Sox last November. In his career, Bummer has a record of 18-18 with a 3.79 ERA, and has secured five saves in 345 relief appearances over eight seasons.

Lopez's career statistics are similarly impressive, boasting a record of 47-54 with a 3.93 ERA across 122 starts and 145 relief appearances since his debut in 2016. His versatility is highlighted by the fact that he has played for several teams, including the Washington Nationals, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels, and Cleveland Guardians, before landing with the Braves.

As the Braves prepare for the upcoming season, these strategic contracts demonstrate their commitment to building a competitive team while also giving back to the community. Could this be the turning point for the Braves in their pursuit of a championship? Only time will tell!
