Blizzard Takes a Stand Against Cheating in Overwatch 2

In a significant move against cheaters, Overwatch 2 has enacted measures resulting in the action of over 23,000 accounts. This crackdown follows the introduction of a new system aimed at identifying players who exploit mouse and keyboard setups in console lobbies, a practice known as 'ximming'.

Total Ban Count Soars Over One Million

While not all 23,000 actions resulted in outright bans, Blizzard's firm stance has increased the total number of banned accounts to an astonishing over 1 million. This indicates the company's serious commitment to preserving fair play.

New Technology for Forefront Cheater Detection

Blizzard elaborated on their strategy in a recent blog post, stating that the newly implemented mouse and keyboard support shifts how they handle users who previously relied on unapproved third-party devices. Cheating by circumventing established restrictions within the Controller Pool will now ensure severe consequences, including bans.

Adapting to Constant Cheating Tactics

Acknowledging that cheaters often adapt their tactics, Blizzard is ready to counter with even more aggressive measures. "We've introduced new technology for Season 18 that enhances our ability to swiftly and reliably detect players employing unapproved peripherals," the company stated.

Harsher Penalties for Unapproved Peripheral Use

Unlike before, when offenders faced warnings and restrictions, the new protocols mean that using unapproved devices in the Controller Pool will result in a complete account ban, regardless of the player's rank. This marks a stark shift in Blizzard's approach to maintaining competitive integrity.
