Exciting Returns in the Baseball World!
As the 2025 MLB season unfolds, all eyes are on some key players making their long-awaited comebacks to the diamond!
1. Spencer Strider's Epic Comeback!
The Atlanta Braves have officially activated right-hander Spencer Strider from the injured list, just in time for his start against the Toronto Blue Jays today! This marks his first big league appearance in over a year after undergoing UCL surgery that sidelined him for nearly the entire 2025 season. Strider was a formidable force from 2022 to 2023, boasting a striking 3.36 ERA, a stellar 2.43 FIP, and an incredible 37.4% strikeout rate over 318 1/3 innings.
In 2023, Strider led the majors in both strikeouts and wins, finishing fourth in the NL Cy Young award race. His return couldn't come at a more crucial time for the Braves, who are off to a rocky 5-12 start. Today, he faces off against Blue Jays righty Chris Bassitt, who’s been stellar himself, holding a jaw-dropping 0.98 ERA in his first three appearances.
2. Clarke Schmidt Joins the Yankees Again!
But Strider isn't the only one coming back! The New York Yankees are gearing up to welcome back Clarke Schmidt from the injured list. Schmidt's early season was marred by rotator cuff tendinitis, but after a brief stint away, he's ready to make his mark again!
This comes as a huge relief for the Yankees' rotation, already in turmoil after losing ace Gerrit Cole to Tommy John surgery. Additionally, the reigning AL Rookie of the Year, Luis Gil, is out for the bulk of the first half. With Marcus Stroman also sidelined, the Yankees' rotation is now a patchwork of talent including Carlos Carrasco and Max Fried.
Schmidt's return is timely—last year, he dazzled in 16 starts with an impressive 2.85 ERA and a solid 26.3% strikeout rate. He'll be taking the mound once more at Yankee Stadium, facing Royals lefty Kris Bubic, who has flourished since moving to a starting role with a stunning 0.96 ERA.
3. Rockies Rookie to Make MLB Debut!
In other thrilling news, a promising young gun from the Colorado Rockies is set to step up and make his Major League debut today! The anticipation is palpable as fans eagerly await to see what this fresh talent can bring to the field.
With all these exhilarating developments across the league, baseball fans have a day full of action and heart-pounding moments ahead!
