In a memorable—but somewhat cringeworthy—moment, Vice President JD Vance fumbled the national championship trophy presented to the Ohio State football team during their White House visit on April 14. The team was there to celebrate their remarkable 34-23 victory over Notre Dame.

Ohio State dazzled fans by winning four consecutive games in the first-ever expanded 12-team College Football Playoff, culminating in the title match on January 20. When the Buckeyes arrived at the South Lawn with their championship trophy, things took an unexpected turn.

As Vance attempted to lift the illustrious trophy, it slipped from his grip, leading to a moment of collective gasp from onlookers. However, he quickly regained composure, holding up the top half of the trophy while joined by the team for photos.

Notable figures joining the event included President Donald Trump, Secretary of Defense Marco Rubio, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, and Lt. Governor Jim Tressel, all of whom celebrated the team’s success. Vance, Trump, and Ohio State coach Ryan Day each took turns at the podium to share their congratulatory messages.

In a light-hearted twist, Vance later took to social media to joke about his trophy mishap, claiming he decided to 'break' the trophy to prevent anyone else from claiming it after Ohio State. Interestingly, the trophy is designed to intentionally come apart, unlike the revered Stanley Cup.

As Ohio State fans revel in this championship win, they can also look forward to an exciting 2025 football schedule featuring matchups against Texas, Michigan, and more!
