As Apple gears up for its next-generation software releases just a couple of months away, it isn't quite finished with the current models yet. Today, the tech giant has rolled out a series of updates, including iOS 18.6, iPadOS 18.6, macOS Sequoia 15.6, watchOS 11.6, tvOS 18.6, and visionOS 2.6.
The spotlight is on security improvements with these updates. Apple specifically addressed a flaw that hindered movie sharing from the Photos app, but more importantly, they've tackled a staggering number of security vulnerabilities. Each operating system patch resolves over two dozen security concerns, ranging from the Metal graphics API to WebKit and networking issues.
Luckily, Apple indicates that these vulnerabilities are not currently being exploited in the wild, meaning users can update with peace of mind. However, applying these patches as soon as possible is crucial, as no zero-day threats have been reported.
For users in the European Union, iOS and iPadOS updates feature an exciting new capability: the option to install alternative app stores and download apps directly from websites, aligning with the EU's Digital Markets Act.
Moreover, Apple continues to support its legacy systems, providing essential security fixes for older operating systems. The iPadOS 17.7.9 update caters to tablets that won’t transition to iPadOS 18, while macOS Ventura 13.7.7 and macOS Sonoma 14.7.7 bring vital patches to Intel Macs that won't be receiving newer updates.
Looking ahead, these operating systems are set to be replaced this fall with fresh releases, all under the unified version number 26. Just last week, Apple unveiled the first public betas for iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, and more, inviting users to take an early look at the future of Apple software!
