The tech world is abuzz with rumors that Apple is about to take a bold step in its iPhone lineup — potentially eliminating the physical SIM card tray for the iPhone 17 series in several countries!

According to insider information shared with MacRumors, Apple Authorized Resellers in the European Union have been instructed to undergo training on iPhones that support eSIM technology by September 5. This training applies to retail employees across 27 EU nations, including major markets like France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands.

Mark your calendars! Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 17 series on September 9, just days after this eSIM training is completed. What’s more intriguing is that this training is documented in Apple's SEED app, suggesting that the push towards eSIM may extend beyond the EU into a global rollout.

In the United States, we've already seen the shift: all models from the iPhone 14 series onwards have ditched the SIM card slot entirely, opting for eSIM technology. While Apple hasn’t officially phased out SIM trays in other regions just yet, the iPhone 17 series is poised to change that!

According to a credible source, next year will see a broader elimination of physical SIMs, though specific model names or targeted countries remain under wraps for now. Nonetheless, the iPhone 17 Air is anticipated to be eSIM-only in nearly every market due to its sleek design.

Industry analysts, including the reputable Ming-Chi Kuo, predict that the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max may also follow suit as eSIM-only devices, although there could be exceptions, notably in countries like China.

When Apple introduced the iPhone 14 series, it touted eSIMs as safer alternatives to traditional SIM cards — they’re embedded in the device, making them immune to theft or loss. Plus, users can manage up to eight eSIMs simultaneously, making international travel much more convenient without the hassle of swapping out physical cards.

With this innovative move, Apple continues to reshape how we connect, paving the way for a future where physical SIM cards may soon become obsolete. Stay tuned for more updates as the iPhone 17 launch approaches!
