Anna Wintour Breaks Silence on Iconic Film

Fashion legend Anna Wintour, the renowned editor-in-chief of Vogue, has finally shared her thoughts on Meryl Streep’s memorable performance in the 2006 hit comedy, 'The Devil Wears Prada.' The film, based on Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling novel—who once served as Wintour’s assistant—depicts the tumultuous world of fashion through the eyes of an aspiring journalist, played by Anne Hathaway.

A Premier Like No Other

Wintour reminisced about attending the film’s premiere clad in Prada, completely unaware of the movie’s premise. On a recent podcast with New Yorker editor David Remnick, she revealed, "I think the fashion industry was quite worried about how I might be portrayed, fearing it wouldn’t be flattering."

A Caricature, But a Compliment!

When Remnick described Streep's character as 'cartoonish,' Wintour concurred, noting, "Yes, a caricature." Yet, she was pleasantly surprised by the film’s depth, stating, "I found it highly enjoyable. It was very funny and had a lot of wit. Miuccia [Prada] and I often chat about it; I tell her, 'Well, it was really good for you.'"

Star-Studded Success!

Wintour praised the film’s ensemble cast, highlighting Streep, Emily Blunt, and others, calling them remarkable. Reflecting on its cultural impact, she concluded, "In the end, I thought it was a fair shot." Streep’s portrayal even earned her an Oscar nomination!

A Sequel is On the Way!

In exciting news, a sequel is currently in production in New York, bringing back Streep, Hathaway, Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, with Kenneth Branagh joining the cast. The original film grossed a staggering $326 million against a mere $40 million budget, solidifying its place in pop culture.

Wintour's New Chapter

In related news, Wintour's successor as Vogue’s editor-in-chief has been announced as Chloe Malle, daughter of iconic French director Louis Malle. Wintour will remain involved as Condé Nast's Chief Content Officer and as Vogue’s Global Editorial Director.
