Transforming Hong Kong's Transport Network
AECOM, a global leader in infrastructure, has just landed a monumental contract from the Highways Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government to facilitate the much-anticipated Northern Metropolis Highway (NMH) project. Spanning 23 kilometers, this ambitious infrastructure initiative is poised to revolutionize east-west connectivity in Hong Kong's burgeoning Northern Metropolis development.
Boosting Economic Potential and Innovation
The NMH is not just about roads; it's a strategic endeavor aimed at propelling economic growth and fostering innovation within the region's tech and research sectors. Mark Southwell, CEO of AECOM’s global Transportation division, expressed pride in partnering with local authorities to modernize and enhance connectivity across the Greater Bay Area.
Comprehensive Engineering Assessments on the Horizon
Working alongside its joint venture partner, AtkinsRéalis, AECOM will dive into critical evaluations of engineering feasibility, environmental impact, and traffic dynamics. Utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as digital twins and Building Information Modeling (BIM), the team is set to craft innovative and cost-effective design solutions.
A Commitment to Future Mobility
Ian Chung, AECOM's Asia CEO, highlighted the importance of this project for Hong Kong’s mobility future and reaffirmed the company's commitment to delivering a top-tier strategic corridor that meets evolving transport needs.
Key Details About the Highway
The NMH will primarily consist of dual three-lane sections and feature at least eight major interchanges, linking existing roads with new development areas. Encompassing distinct sections such as Tin Shui Wai and Kwu Tung, this new roadway will significantly alleviate congestion on major highways and enhance the overall transport infrastructure.
