As of August 29, several counties in Nova Scotia are breathing a sigh of relief as restrictions on travel and activities in the woods have been lifted due to a significant decrease in wildfire risk. However, a province-wide burn ban remains in effect until at least October 15.
Lifted Restrictions in Specific Counties
Effective from 4 p.m. today, the following counties can once again welcome outdoor enthusiasts without restrictions:
- Cape Breton - Richmond - Victoria - Inverness - Guysborough - Antigonish - Halifax
Premier Tim Houston noted, "Our data shows conditions are improving in certain parts of the province, prompting professionals to recommend easing restrictions there. While fire crews continue to tackle challenges in areas like Long Lake, the precautions taken by Nova Scotians have led to a safer environment for outdoor activities in many regions."
Counties Still Under Restrictions
Unfortunately, for residents in the remaining 11 counties, including Pictou, Colchester, and Yarmouth, restrictions will stay in place, as conditions remain perilously dry. The ban on activities will remain until October 15 or until further assessment deems it safe to lift.
Violating these restrictions can lead to hefty penalties of up to $25,000.
