A routine traffic stop turned chaotic earlier this month when a driver decided to put on a show for the officers, speeding past and revving his engine while yelling. The bizarre behavior didn’t go unnoticed and ultimately resulted in a roadside prohibition, multiple fines, and the confiscation of his vehicle.
Winkler Police Chief Ryan Hunt recounted the incident, which took place on April 19. Officers were currently engaged in a traffic stop when the reckless driver zoomed by, shouting at them and squealing his tires.
"The driver of this other vehicle yelled loudly at the officers, revved his engine while speeding away," Hunt stated. After completing their original stop, the officers quickly resumed their duties and caught up with the driver again.
Upon stopping him, officers noticed clear signs of impairment. The driver's failure to pass a roadside breath test sealed his fate—he was immediately slapped with a 90-day driving suspension and a hefty $700 fine under Manitoba’s Immediate Roadside Prohibition program.
But the trouble didn’t end there. Upon searching his vehicle, police discovered liquor and unmarked tobacco, adding to his woes. He faced an additional $237 fine for possessing liquor, along with a staggering $2,542 fine for the unmarked tobacco.
In a final twist, his vehicle was seized for 30 days, leaving the driver facing serious repercussions for this reckless escapade. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of irresponsible driving.
