A health authority in northern British Columbia has issued an urgent alert: measles is officially spreading in the secluded community of Wonowon, located about 89 kilometers northwest of Fort St. John.

Multiple lab-confirmed cases have raised alarm bells in the region. Initially, the first reported case was travel-related, but the virus has unfortunately taken root, with circulation confirmed since late May.

Residents of neighboring towns, including Fort St. John, may have been exposed to the virus. One critical point of contact occurred at the Fort St. John hospital's emergency room during the early hours of June 2, raising concerns for those who were present.
