Measles Alert: Stay Vigilant!

A critical alert has been issued by public health officials in Manitoba, revealing potential exposure to measles in two communities just south of Winnipeg. The alarming warning highlights several key locations where individuals may have come into contact with the virus.

Exposure Sites Revealed!

The C. W. Wiebe Medical Centre and the Dynacare blood and medical test lab in Winkler were identified as exposure sites on April 24, 25, and 29. Additionally, shoppers at the Real Canadian Superstore in Winkler on April 28 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. may have also been at risk.

Further reports suggest possible exposures occurred at Winners in Winkler on the evening of April 27 and at Gretna School between April 22 and 24. These communities, located roughly 100 kilometers southwest of Winnipeg and near the U.S. border, are on high alert.

Take Action: Monitor Your Health!

Public health representatives are actively reaching out to inform staff, students, and families connected to these facilities, urging everyone to watch for symptoms for a full three weeks following potential exposure. If you suspect you may have been exposed but haven’t received any notices, officials advise contacting Health Links-Info Santé immediately.

The Bigger Picture: A Nationwide Concern!

This is part of a worrying trend, as Manitoba has reported 10 confirmed cases and four probable cases of measles since February. Outbreaks of the virus have been documented across Canada, with Ontario and Alberta bearing the brunt of the cases. Ontario alone has seen a staggering 1,243 reported cases from October 2024 to April 2025.

With measles outbreaks on the rise, it's crucial for residents to stay informed and take preventative measures. Be vigilant and protect yourself and your community!
