Beware: Measles Alert in Your Neighborhood!

Attention, Aylmer residents! The regional health authority, CISSSO, has issued a warning following the discovery of measles cases in nearby Ottawa. On April 20, two individuals carrying the virus visited the Éco des champs farm at 482 chemin Earley, raising concerns about potential exposure.

What You Need to Know!

While CISSSO reports that the risk of outdoor exposure is low, the two individuals also stopped at several locations in Ottawa that could affect many residents. They were at Food Basics on Cyrville Road on April 21 from 5 PM to 8 PM, and at Costco on Blair Towers Place on April 23 between 6 PM and 8:45 PM.

No Cases Yet, But Stay Vigilant!

So far, no confirmed measles cases have been reported in the Outaouais region. However, CISSSO emphasizes the importance of being cautious, reminding the public that although the outbreak in Quebec has concluded, measles can resurface.

Check Your Immunization Status!

CISSSO urges anyone who visited these sites around the time of exposure to verify their immunity status. To be deemed protected against measles, individuals should have received two vaccinations: one at one year old and another at 18 months. If you were born before 1970, you're considered protected as well.

Get Vaccinated if Necessary!

For those who haven’t been vaccinated yet, appointments can be easily scheduled through the clicsante.ca portal.

Watch for Symptoms!

Stay alert! If you believe you might have come into contact with measles, monitor any developing symptoms. Common indicators include a fever over 38.8°C, cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis, and a distinctive red rash that typically begins on the face and spreads across the body.

Protect Yourself and Your Community!

Take care, stay informed, and ensure you and your loved ones are protected. Measles is preventable, but only with the right vaccination!
