Peel Regional Police On the Hunt

Peel Regional Police are on the hunt for a Toronto man, Jaspal Singh Thiara, who allegedly scammed a victim out of more than $38,000 by selling counterfeit tickets to concerts and sporting events. The investigation, which spanned from February to October, uncovered a string of fraudulent activities linked to Thiara.

How the Scam Worked

According to law enforcement officials, the 37-year-old suspect posed as a legitimate vendor, luring unsuspecting fans with false promises of access to high-demand events, including the much-hyped Taylor Swift concerts currently taking place in Toronto. The ongoing excitement around the "Eras Tour" has made fans increasingly desperate for tickets, making them prime targets for this type of fraud.

Charges and Concerns

Police have issued an arrest warrant for Thiara, charging him with fraud exceeding $5,000 and failure to comply with prior judicial orders, as he was already on release for similar offenses. Authorities are expressing concern that he may still be operating in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), potentially searching for new victims amidst the high ticket demand.

Increase in Concert Ticket Scams

The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre has reported an alarming increase in scams linked to concert tickets, with at least 190 reports made this year alone, particularly related to the Taylor Swift event. This highlights the critical need for vigilance among concert-goers who might be tempted to purchase tickets from unofficial sources in their quest to experience these highly sought-after performances.

Call to Action

Investigators suspect that Thiara may not be an isolated case, and they are urging anyone who may have fallen victim to similar scams to come forward. Anyone with information regarding Thiara's whereabouts is strongly encouraged to reach out to the police at 905-453-2121 ext. 3335 or to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
