New Danger on the Horizon!
Residents of the Kingston area are on high alert as public health officials confirm new exposure sites related to a single positive case of measles. The latest locations span across Lennox & Addington County, Prince Edward County, and Kingston.
Details of the Exposures
The South East Health Unit has identified exposure periods stretching from April 3 to 10 in various local locations. Notable sites include:
- **Tamworth Elementary School**: April 3-10
- **Tamworth Post Office**: April 4, 4:10 to 6:10 PM
- **Lennox & Addington County General Hospital**: April 4, 7:00 to 11:47 PM
- **Cineplex Kingston (A Minecraft Movie)**: April 10, 4:35 PM
- **Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital**: April 11, noon to 3:30 PM
Rising Case Numbers Prompt Concern
As of April 16, health officials have confirmed two measles cases in the Kingston area, alongside further local exposure risks linked to a positive case in Hastings County. The Kingston region reported these exposure sites on April 6 and April 10.
Public Health Ontario reports an alarming total of 58 confirmed measles cases within the South East Health Unit catchment since October 28, with a staggering 816 cases across Ontario.
Vaccination Remains Key
Health authorities emphasize that vaccination is the most effective shield against the measles virus. Disturbingly, 92.5% of children and 62% of adults infected were not immunized.
Residents are urged to check their vaccination status and get immunized, especially given the rising cases and exposure risks in the community. Stay safe and informed!
